Right from the beginning of Purple Ladybug® we’ve made a commitment to ensure that all our products are safe for children to use.
All our products comply with USA, EU, UK, and other applicable international safety regulations when applicable.
Beyond the required testing, we go a step further to ensure you get a safe product for your children to use.
Kid Testing
We’re parents too. Part of what drove us to create Purple Ladybug® was a desire for high-quality, high-value, safe toys and products for children to enjoy, our own children included. As we develop new products, our children are involved in idea development, testing and have quite a bit to say about what makes a good product for them to use!
Manufacturing Standards
Our manufacturing process is closely watched to ensure processes are followed to ensure production quality. We inspect and evaluate our products at various phases of the manufacturing process. We continually test and assess our production lines, keeping a close eye on our manufacturing standards.
Independent Testing
All our products are tested by independent and certified third-party laboratories. These laboratories are experts in their industry, and we use different laboratories for different types of testing as a result.
They conduct all the relevant testing for both individual product components and the completed product itself, as applicable.
Compliance
All of Purple Ladybug’s products are compliant with CPSIA, EU and other international regulations.
We have always tested our products to applicable standards and commit to continue staying compliant with all product safety regulations as some of these laws evolve and new standards are set.
Certificates of Conformity
A Certificate of Conformity is a document that we, as product manufacturers, provide you where we identify the product, its relevant tests, and make a declaration that the tests were performed by an accredited laboratory and include those details.
- In the USA, this document is called a USA General Conformity Certificate (GCC) or a Children’s Product Certificate (CPC).
- In the EU, this document is called an EU Declaration of Conformity.
USA Compliance - Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA)
The CPSIA came into place in 2008 with new regulations and provisions addressing, among other things, lead, phthalates, toy safety, durable infant or toddler products, third-party testing and certification, and tracking labels.
The CPSIA also defines the term “children’s product” and generally requires that all children’s products comply with applicable safety rules, be tested for compliance by an accredited laboratory, have a written Children’s Product Certificate showing evidence of the product’s compliance, and have tracking information on the product and packaging. EU Compliance – The Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC and EN71 Standards
The Directive lays down the safety criteria that toys must meet before they can be marketed in the EU. Toys must also comply with any other EU legislation applicable to them. The essential safety requirements cover general risks such as the health and safety of children, as well as other people such as parents or caregivers, and more particular risks, such as physical and mechanical, flammability, chemical, electrical, hygiene and radioactivity risks. EN71 is the standard to which all toys must be tested.

UK Compliance
Note on compliance in the UK (post Brexit): Thus far, compliance with EU standards addressed all UK requirements as well. As the UK is leaving the EU, we commit to staying compliant with any new applicable standards the UK government develops after Brexit.

What is the Purple Ladybug Mosaic Builder?
The Purple Ladybug Mosaic Builder turns any photo into a pixel-art brick mosaic — a hands-on building activity where you place coloured bricks one by one to recreate your favourite image.
It makes a great gift or family activity, and the finished mosaic can be displayed as a unique piece of home décor. The bricks can be taken apart and reassembled as many times as you like.
What makes Purple Ladybug different from other mosaic kits?
Our Mosaic Builder tool is completely free to use — no purchase required to generate your preview or download your assembly instructions. Upload your photo, see your mosaic instantly, and download a full PDF guide before you decide to buy a kit.
Most competitors require a unique code from inside the physical box before you can access your assembly instructions. With Purple Ladybug, no code is needed — upload your photo, generate your mosaic, and download your instructions freely, whether you've purchased a kit or are just exploring.
What is the mosaic made of?
All brick elements are made from hard, odourless plastic. Our kits meet all relevant safety certifications.
What size is the mosaic?
Each mosaic is built on a 48×48 grid — that's 2,304 individual bricks. The finished mosaic measures 38 × 38 cm (15 × 15 inches).
How many colours are used?
The kit uses 5 carefully chosen colours: Peach, Salmon, Charcoal, Ivory, and Black. These colours are selected to work together to recreate the light and shadow in portrait photos as accurately as possible.
Which photos work best?
The best results come from:
✓ Close-up portraits — faces cropped tight fill the grid with detail
✓ High contrast subjects — strong light and shadow separate well into 5 colours
✓ Plain or simple backgrounds — keep the focus on the subject
✓ High resolution photos — more source detail = better output
Landscape scenes, group photos, and images with lots of blue or green tones tend to work less well because our palette is optimised for skin tones and warm colours.
Do I need to create an account or pay to use the tool?
No account and no payment needed. The Mosaic Builder is completely free. Upload your photo, generate your mosaic, fine-tune the settings, and download your PDF assembly guide — all at no cost.
Will my photo be stored or shared online?
No. The Mosaic Builder runs entirely in your browser — your photo is never uploaded to any server. It stays on your device at all times and is never shared or stored by Purple Ladybug.
How do I get my assembly instructions?
Once you're happy with your mosaic preview, click Download PDF Instructions. A full assembly guide is generated and downloaded immediately to your device — no code, no account, and no waiting required.
The PDF includes a colour-coded grid showing exactly which brick goes in each position, plus a brick count for each colour so you know exactly what you need.
We're also adding email delivery soon, so you'll be able to have your instructions sent directly to your inbox as well.
What do the adjustment sliders do?
The tool automatically sets the sliders to the best values for your photo. You can also fine-tune manually:
Contrast — strengthens or softens the difference between light and dark areas
Brightness — lightens or darkens the overall image
Sharpness — enhances edges and fine detail
Use Undo Last Change to step back one adjustment and Redo to step forward again. Reset to Auto returns to the default settings.
What are the variation thumbnails?
After you confirm your crop, the tool automatically generates 8 different interpretations of your photo: 4 styles (Balanced, High Contrast, Bright & Soft and Sharp), each at a standard crop and a slightly closer one. Click any thumbnail to load that version as your starting point, then fine-tune with the sliders below.
How long does assembly take?
Most builders complete a 48×48 mosaic in 4–6 hours. Working with a partner can speed things up considerably.
Many people enjoy spreading the build across several sessions — the brick counts in your PDF guide make it easy to pick up exactly where you left off.
Can I fix a mistake if I place a brick in the wrong spot?
Yes. Every kit includes a brick separator tool for safely popping bricks off the board without damaging them. Instructions for using it are included in the manual. Bricks can be removed and repositioned at any time during assembly.
What if I run out of bricks of one colour?
Each kit includes 700 bricks per colour — significantly more than any mosaic design will use. You should never run short. If you do experience an issue, contact us and we'll make it right.
Can children assemble the mosaic?
The mosaic kit is recommended for ages 8 and up. Children under 8 should be supervised by an adult due to small parts. Building together as a family is one of the best ways to enjoy it!
How do I display the finished mosaic?
Every kit includes 2 removable wall tape strips for hanging your finished mosaic on any smooth wall surface. They hold firmly but remove cleanly without damaging paint or wallpaper.
The tape strips are the easiest way to display your mosaic, but the finished piece can also stand freely on a shelf or desk if you prefer.
I don't like my generated mosaic. Can I try a different look?
Absolutely. The tool lets you try as many times as you like before downloading anything. Try choosing a different variation thumbnail, adjusting the sliders, or re-cropping your photo to focus tighter on the face. There's no limit on previews.
Can I purchase an already-assembled mosaic?
No — the joy of the product is in building it yourself. Creating it by hand is what makes the finished piece meaningful.
