What's in your kit: Paint Pouring Art Kit

  • 3 Art Boards
  • 7 Bottles of Craft Paint
  • Silicone Oil
  • 1 Collapsible Mixing Cup
  • 1 Design Chain
  • 3 Straws
  • 3 Sets of Gloves
  • 3 Wooden Craft Sticks
  • 3 Disposable Table Covers

Before You Begin

  • Set up your work area first. Lay down paper towels to catch drips and spills.
  • Lay out everything in the kit so it's all within reach before you begin.
  • The paints are permanent, so protect clothing, furniture, and other surfaces from stains.
  • Wear old clothes or an apron while painting.
  • Cover your workspace with one of the disposable tablecloths.
  • Put on a pair of disposable gloves.
  • Place one art board on the covered work area.
  • Plan your paint colors before you begin. If you want to use the same color across all three artworks, do not use the entire bottle on your first board.
  • Choose a safe, well-ventilated place where your finished artwork can stay undisturbed for 24 to 48 hours while it dries.

Step 1: Choose a Paint Pouring Technique

You can create your artwork using either the Flip and Pour technique or the Puddle Pour technique. You can also add special effects with silicone oil, the straw, or the design chain.

Step 2A: Flip and Pour

  • Choose your paint colors. Using more colors can create a bolder pour.
  • Pour the paint colors into the silicone mixing cup one at a time.
  • Pour each color slowly down the side of the cup so the colors form layers.
  • Remember that the first color you pour will usually end up on top and be the most visible.
  • Place the art board face down over the top of the silicone cup.
  • Hold the board and cup together carefully.
  • Flip them over together so the cup is upside down on top of the board.
  • Press gently. Do not squash the collapsible silicone cup.
  • Slowly lift the cup to release the paint.
  • Gently tilt the board in different directions to spread the paint across the surface.
  • Use the straw to gently blow paint toward any uncovered areas, especially around the edges.
  • Wash and completely dry the silicone cup before using it again.

Step 2B: Puddle Pour

  • Choose as many paint colors as you like.
  • Pour a small puddle of one color directly onto the art board.
  • Pour another color on top of the first puddle.
  • Continue adding colors on top of one another to create layers of paint.
  • Pour slowly because the paint will spread as you work.
  • Gently tilt the board to move the paint across the surface.
  • Use the straw to help spread the paint and reach uncovered areas.

Note: Some paint may spill over the edges of the board onto the tablecloth. This is a normal part of paint pouring.

Step 3: Add Silicone Oil for a Marbled Effect

  • Choose one paint color for the silicone oil.
  • Pour that color into the silicone mixing cup.
  • Add 1 to 2 drops of silicone oil.
  • Mix the paint and silicone oil well with a wooden craft stick.
  • Add the rest of your paint colors as usual.
  • Continue with either the Flip and Pour or Puddle Pour technique.

Tip: Since the kit includes one silicone cup, it is easiest to mix the silicone oil into just one color. Adding it to the first color of your pour can help make the effect more visible.

Step 4: Create Effects with the Straw

  • After pouring your paint, gently blow through the straw to move the paint around.
  • Use short, controlled puffs to make small ripples.
  • Use longer blows to stretch the colors.
  • Blow paint toward uncovered areas or edges as needed.
  • Continue until you are happy with the pattern.

Step 5: Create Effects with the Design Chain

Option 1: Lay and Pull

  • Place the design chain gently onto the wet paint.
  • Hold one end of the chain.
  • Slowly pull the chain across the board.
  • Curve the chain as you pull to create waves, loops, zigzags, or other swirling patterns.

Option 2: Dip and Drag

  • After pouring and spreading your paint, add a little extra paint to the silicone cup.
  • Dip the design chain into the extra paint.
  • Place the painted chain onto your artwork.
  • Drag it across the surface to create bold lines and patterns.
  • Repeat with other colors if desired.
  • Wipe the chain clean between uses so the different paint colors stay clear.

Step 6: Let It Dry

  • Place your finished art board flat in a well-ventilated area.
  • Leave it undisturbed for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Do not move the board while it is drying because shifting it can change your design.
  • Make sure the artwork is completely dry before displaying or handling it.

Step 7: Clean Up

  • Gather the gloves, straws, leftover paint, and other messy disposable materials into the tablecloth.
  • Roll or gather the tablecloth around everything.
  • Tie it closed.
  • Throw the bundled materials in the trash.
  • Clean and completely dry any reusable tools before storing them.

What's in your kit: Paint Pouring Clock Kit

  • 1 Clock Face
  • 1 Practice Board
  • 5 Bottles of Craft Paint
  • 1 Collapsible Silicone Mixing Cup
  • Gemstone Stickers
  • 1 Clock Kit with Hour and Minute Hands
  • 1 Adhesive Wall Hook
  • Number Stickers
  • 1 Table Cover for Easy Cleanup
  • 2 Straws
  • Gloves

Before You Begin

  • Set up your work area first. Lay down paper towels to catch drips and spills.
  • Lay out everything in the kit so it's all within reach before you begin.
  • The paints are permanent, so protect clothing, furniture, and other surfaces from stains.
  • Wear old clothes or an apron while painting.
  • Lay the disposable tablecloth over your workspace.
  • Put on a pair of disposable gloves.
  • Start with the practice board before using the main clock board.
  • Keep the main clock board nearby for later.
  • Choose a safe, well-ventilated place where your clock can stay flat and undisturbed for 24 to 48 hours while drying.
  • Keep the small piece of tape covering the center hole of the main clock board in place while pouring. This helps prevent paint from leaking through the hole.
  • Do not remove the tape until the clock is completely dry and you are ready to assemble it.
  • Check the practice board before pouring. If the pre-cut center piece falls out, push it back into place or tape it from the back.

Step 1: Learn the Pouring Techniques

Option A: Flip and Pour

  • Choose the paint colors you want to use.
  • Pour the colors slowly into the silicone mixing cup, one color at a time.
  • Pour each color down the side of the cup to create layers.
  • Remember that the first color poured into the cup will usually be the most visible in the finished design.
  • Place the clock board face down on top of the silicone cup.
  • Hold the board and cup together and carefully flip them over.
  • Press down gently without squashing the collapsible silicone cup.
  • Slowly lift the cup to release the paint.
  • Tilt the board gently in different directions to spread the paint across the surface.
  • Use the straw to gently blow paint toward areas that are not fully covered, especially around the edges.
  • Wash the silicone cup thoroughly between pours and let it dry completely before using it again.

Option B: Puddle Pour

  • Choose as many paint colors as you like.
  • Pour a small puddle of one color directly onto the board.
  • Pour another color on top of or near the first puddle.
  • Continue adding small amounts of different colors.
  • Pour slowly because the colors will begin spreading as you work.
  • Gently tilt the board to move the paint across the surface.
  • Use the straw to gently blow and guide paint into uncovered areas, especially around the edges.
  • Let the painted board dry flat in a well-ventilated area.

Step 2: Try a Test Pour

  • Shake each paint bottle well before using.
  • Use the practice board for your first pour.
  • Use about half, or slightly less than half, of your paint for the practice design.
  • Try either the Flip and Pour or Puddle Pour technique.
  • Experiment with how much paint you use, how much you tilt the board, and how the colors blend together.
  • Keep the main clock board aside while you practice.
  • Save at least half of the paint for your final clock design.

Step 3: Create Your Final Pour

  • Once you are comfortable with the technique, place the main clock board on your protected workspace.
  • Repeat your favorite pouring technique using the remaining paint.
  • Tilt and guide the paint until you are happy with the design.
  • Keep the center hole covered while you paint.
  • Place the finished clock board flat in a well-ventilated area.
  • Let it dry completely for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Do not move the board while it is drying because this can change the design.

Step 4: Add Numbers and Decorations

  • Make sure the painted clock board is completely dry.
  • Use the positioning paper to help line up the clock numbers at 12, 3, 6, and 9.
  • Add the remaining number stickers if you want all the numbers displayed.
  • You can also leave some numbers off for a more minimal design.
  • Add gemstone stickers as number accents, number substitutes, or decorative details.
  • Continue decorating until you are happy with your clock face.

Step 5: Attach the Clock Parts

  • Ask an adult to help with installing the clock mechanism.
  • Remove the tape covering the center hole once the clock is completely dry.
  • Check that the threaded shaft of the clock mechanism fits through the center hole.
  • If the hole is too tight, ask an adult to gently widen or adjust it so the shaft can sit flat.
  • Slide the rubber backstop onto the clock mechanism's shaft.
  • From the back of the clock board, push the shaft through the center hole.
  • On the front of the clock, slide the washer onto the shaft.
  • Screw the nut onto the shaft.
  • Tighten the nut only enough to hold the clock mechanism securely in place.
  • Press the hour hand onto the center shaft.
  • Press the minute hand on top of the hour hand.
  • Press the pin into the center to hold the hands in place.
  • Insert 1 AA battery, which is not included, into the clock mechanism.
  • Set the clock to the correct time.

Tip: Be careful not to bend the clock hands. If they become slightly bent, gently straighten them back into place.

Step 6: Hang Your Clock

  • Peel the backing from the adhesive wall hook.
  • Press the hook firmly onto a clean wall.
  • Once the hook is secure, hang your finished clock.
  • Make sure the clock hangs securely before letting go.

Step 7: Clean Up

  • Gather the gloves, straws, leftover paint, and other messy disposable materials onto the tablecloth.
  • Wrap or gather the tablecloth around everything.
  • Tie it closed.
  • Dispose of the bundle in the trash.
  • Clean and dry any reusable tools before storing them.
