Many of us grew up with traditional images of what family dinners would look like with our kids, but gathering around the table at the end of the day isnât always that picturesque! Â
Our kids bring their own unique challenges to mealtimes; kids who are picky eaters can make planning meals especially overwhelming. Â
So, to make life a bit easier for you moms and dads (thatâs what weâre here for đ), weâve rounded up some fantastic tips for mealtime with picky kids...Â
â¤ď¸Â Change your language around your kidâs eating habits. There is a lot of power in positive affirmations and when you start talking about how proud you are of your kidsâ eating habits (even if you have to fake it at first) that can actually plant the seeds for real change in how your kids perceive themselves and the choices they make.Â
â¤ď¸Â Get your kids involved in the cooking and choosing what they eat. Even if their choices arenât 100% what youâd like for them to be eating yet, giving them power in the situation helps.Â
â¤ď¸Â Make mealtime more fun! If your dinner table has turned into a constant battlefield and source of stress, your kids donât have much incentive to change or look forward to eating together. Decorate the table, listen to music, mix up the tableware with things like our customizable tumblers, tell jokes...whatever you need to do to start making sitting down for a meal an enjoyable experience for everyone again.Â
â¤ď¸Â Try it again. If your child hasnât tried a recipe or a food in a while, donât be afraid to try it again. But also, donât draw too much attention to that fact that your kiddo didnât like it the last time.Â
ď¸ď¸â¤ď¸Â Donât use food as a reward. Making some foods a reward can in fact make other foods feel like a punishment. If you offer ice cream as a treat for eating broccoli, your child will always view the broccoli as something to suffer through to get to the good stuff.Â
