Before You Begin
- Set up your work area first. Lay down paper towels to catch drips and spills.
- Lay out everything in the kit so it's all within reach before you begin.
- Choose a clean, flat surface to work on.
- Look through the background scenes and Story Pals.
- Decide which background, characters, and props you want to use for your first Bead Story.
Step 1: Imagine Your Bead Story Scene
- Look through the included background scenes.
- Choose the Story Pals you want to use as characters and props.
- Pick a background for your story.
- Arrange your ideas before adding the beads.
Step 2: Fill the Story Pals with Beads
- Give the bead pen a gentle shake until a bead moves into place at the tip.
- Press the tip of the bead pen into a hole on the Story Pal.
- The bead will pop into the hole.
- Lift the pen and allow the next bead to move into position.
- Continue filling the holes until your Story Pal is decorated the way you want.
Tip: If no bead comes out or the pen does not reload right away, gently shake the pen until a bead moves into the chamber. Sometimes the beads just need a little wiggle.
Design Tips
- Mix different bead colors.
- Use colors that contrast with the background to help your design stand out.
- Combine 2 or 3 colors in one area to create patterns.
- Try stripes, rainbows, or color blocks.
Step 3: Create Your Bead Story
- Choose where you want each finished Story Pal to go on the background.
- Take one of the double-sided adhesive sticker dots.
- Stick the brown side to the back of the Story Pal.
- Stick the white side to the background.
- Repeat with the other Story Pals until your scene is complete.
- Move the Story Pals around as you tell your story, if desired.
- Be gentle when moving them because bending a Story Pal may cause some beads to pop out.
- If any beads fall out, press them back into place.
- To redo part of a design, gently bend the Story Pal to help remove the beads.
Step 4: Tell Your Story
- Use your decorated Story Pals as characters and props.
- Move them around the background to act out dialogue, scenes, and surprises.
- Create your own adventure using the characters you made.
- Tell your story to parents, friends, or family members.
- Play on your own or invite a friend to create a story with you.
Refilling Your Bead Pens
- Five bead pens come pre-filled and ready to use.
- Use the empty bead pen when you want to add a new bead color.
- Pour beads from one color pack into a tray.
- If the pen already contains beads, empty them into the second tray before changing colors.
- Use the tray to carefully refill the empty bead pen with your chosen color.
- Repeat whenever you want to switch to another bead color.
